Labour: The Work of Life

Textiles by Carolyn Murphy

April 10-27th

Gallery is open Wednesdays to Sundays 12-6pm

Artist Talk: April 27th 4pm

The Labour Series is an exploration of the work of life.

Labour can be a thrill, or it can be drudgery. It can be ignored or celebrated. It can be domestic, physical, emotional. It can be trivial, or it can result in the birth of a baby. It is all the things we do with and for each other.
My focus is the unseen labour that has a profound impact on us all: the unpaid and unheralded labour, the big and small efforts that go on behind the scenes of life. The fabric collages in this show depict the millions of ways we care for each other: for family, friends, neighbours, and even for strangers. Each kindness a building block in a larger web of grace.

Upcoming exhibitions

May 8- 25 2025

Mother of All Mothers

Five female lens based artists explore motherhood and themes of love, sacrifice, strength and the complexities of this role. This exhibition will encourage reflection and societal expectations and personal experiences surrounding motherhood.

Including work by: Mariam Magsi, Destinie Adelakun, Cindy Blazevic, Angela Aujla and Monica Gupta

June 6-15th
“Jab! Faces of Fire, Masks of Memory”
is an art show that draws a bold line from the ritualistic way the Jab in Trinidadian culture is masked through performance, gesture and surface — to the modern-day need to shape-shift through inherited identities, code-switching, and self-preservation.

Including work by: Tessa Alexandra, Heidi McKenzie, Shalini Seereram, John Cadiz, Pixel Heller and a documentary screening of Jab by Elizabeth Topp
